And we are off…

It’s been a few months in the making and after much trial and error I am proud to present my shiny new …… thing.

Now, before we proceed any further I just want to make it clear that I am somewhat adverse to the word “Blog” because, as my all time hero Zero Puntuation points out, it sounds like a sort of creature that lives at the bottom of a river and comunicates through farts. So hence forth this bit shall be refered to as … errrr…. Oh, God knows, but not blog.

Anyhoo this is all rather new and exiting and I am still trawling through my archives to pull out something half decent to post and it has lead me to something of a change of heart. I cut my teeth photography wise whilst away travelling and these rather fantastic twelve months away meant that I was always on the move and totally without any form of editing software at all. As such I had to get the shot there and then. There was no retouching or even cropping to be done which made it all rather purist.

However upong return I have started working back through the 12,000 or so photos I took and noticed that there are a lot of shots that with a bit of tweaking suddenly come up to scratch. The only problem is, where do you stop? At the moment I sometimes re crop or try and darken the shadows a touch or bring out some of the colours but the level of image manipulation available in Photoshop or Gimp means you can pretty much re define the image. If you take it to this extreme then where does the skill lie? With how good a photographer you are or how good you are with photoshop? Is there even a difference?

Anyway, it’s all a bit of a muddle to me but if anyone has any thoughts then please sling them below.
